MIAMI (Oct. 18, 2019) - FIU opened up day one of Dual-A-Pool-Ooza with a 135-89 win over Tulane on Friday evening.
FIU won eight of the 12 events on the opening day of competition, racing past the Green Wave for the first win of the weekend. Click

The evening opened up with the 400 medley relay, as the team of
Julia Miranda,
Taylor Grabenhorst,
Emily Cordovi and
Lamija Medosevic touched at 3:47.26 to secure the first victory of the day.
Stephanie Hussey followed with a second-place finish in the 1000 free event after her swim of 10:15.09.
Rachel Whitaker took fourth place in the event with her time of 10:45.98 24.
In the 200 back, Miranda touched with a time of 2:03.09 to place second while
Holly Shepherd finished fourth with a time 2:08.09. Medosevic picked up the Panthers' second win of the evening in the 50 free, after she touched at 23.90.
Paloma Sanchez tapped in at fourth in the same event, with a time of 24.97 as
Alexa Bryant was not too far behind in fifth with a time of 25.00.
In the 200 breast, FIU took 3-5 overall as Grabenhorst (2:18.12),
Delaine Goll (2:21.53) and
Victoria Cantu (2:25.75) finished back-to-back-to-back. The Panthers took the top two spots in the 100 fly, as Kasia Kolodziej won the event (56.74) and
Emily Cordovi finished the race in second place (57.26).
Medosevic went on to win the 100 free (50.80), solidifying another Panther victory, while Fodor landed in third place with her time of 53.24. Miranda followed with a win in the 50 back at a time of 26.29 and
Melannie Vargas finished runner-up with her time of 26.67.
In the 200 IM, Grabenhorst placed second overall with a time of 2:06.93 and
Eriana Temperino completed the race with a time of 2:08.58 to finish fourth overall. Hussey won the 500 free event with a time of 4:54.50, while
Berta Triola touched fifth in the event with a time of 5:12.87.
The competition in the lanes concluded with the team of Sanchez, Bryant, Fodor and Hussey winning the 100 free relay at 45.08, while the team of Temperino, Vargas, Barral and Kolodzie took second with a time of 45.89.
From the springboard,
Rachel Foord,
Maha Gouda and
Brittany Haskell took the top-three spots from the 3-meter event to aid in the Panthers victorious night.
The Panthers look to repeat their strong performance tomorrow, as FIU takes on conference foe Rice and Denver on day two of Dual-A-Pool-Ooza.
