MIAMI (Oct. 7, 2019) – In this FIU Athletics weekly recap, the FIU football team earned a 44-0 win over UMass to highlight the week in Panther athletics.
Below is a brief recap of how each FIU team performed this past week.
Women's Golf
The FIU women's golf team finished fourth overall at the Johnie Imes Invitational In Missouri, led by
Agueda Cortilla who tied for fourth after a career-best card. The Panthers head to Boca Raton on Oct. 14-15 for the Jupiter Women's Invitational.
Women's Tennis
The Panthers opened the 2019-20 season at the Bedford Cup, as FIU starts another year on the courts. Freshman
Kristina Miletic won a pair of singles matches to shine in the opening weekend, while
Kamila Umarova advanced to the semifinals for singles action. FIU will compete next at the ITA Southeast Regionals in Tallahassee on Oct. 18-21.
Swim & Dive
FIU hosted the TYR Fall Classic, finishing runner-up with 449 points. FIU bettered two Power 5 foes, finishing ahead of TCU and Pittsburgh. The Panthers will be back at their home pool this Saturday as the FIU hosts the Blue & Gold Alumni Intrasqaud Meet on Oct. 12.
Women's Soccer
FIU dropped a pair of C-USA matches on the road against Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech.
Rayquel Berry scored her fourth goal of the season this past Sunday, as she led the Panther attack. FIU returns home on Sunday, Oct. 13 as the Panthers host WKU at 1 p.m. ET.
Men's Soccer
FIU kept its undefeated record alive as the Panthers earned a draw against Akron on the road. The Panthers and Zips tied 1-1, with
Andrew Booth scoring FIU's lone goal on the night. FIU travels to Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday, Oct. 8 as the Panthers take on the Eagles at 7 p.m. ET.
Football
The FIU football team is coming off a resounding 44-0 win over UMass, marking just the second shutout in the program's history. FIU was led by reigning C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week
Maurice Alexander, who racked up 140 punt return yards after a 90-yard return against the Minutemen. The Panthers continue their homestand this upcoming weekend, as Charlotte visits for Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7:00 p.m. ET
Volleyball
FIU volleyball downed Florida Atlantic in five sets at home, as the Panthers earned their first conference win of the season. FIU continues its homestand with Charlotte (Oct. 11), WKU (Oct. 13), Florida Gulf Coast (Oct. 16) and UTEP (Oct. 18) all visiting the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
