MIAMI (Nov. 8, 2019) – The FIU men's basketball team began its home slate of the 2019-20 season with a contest against Ave Maria at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Friday night. The Panthers topped the Gyrenes 101-59 for their first win of the season.
With the victory, FIU goes to 1-1 for the year. The team handed AMU its first loss, moving the squad to 3-1 on the season.
The Panthers headed to the locker room holding a 49-24 advantage in the first half after shooting 69% and holding the Gyrenes to just 30.8% from the field. Osasumwen Osaghae posted a team-high 12 points, going 6-6 during his 15 minutes played.
The team closed out the victory outscoring Ave Maria 52-35 to claim the 101-59 victory. The Panthers finished the contest shooting 61.5% from the field and 52.2% from the three-point line.
Six players reached double-figures in scoring and Blake Furcron finished the night with a squad-best 16 points, shooting 7-8 from the field and 2-3 from behind the arc. Osaghae logged a career-high eight blocks, bringing his career total to 141.
