BOCA RATON, FLORIDA (Feb. 22, 2019) - The FIU women's tennis team secured a 4-1 victory on the road, over FAU, this morning.
"Today we were all on the same page and everyone came out here to fight," said head coach
Katarina Petrovic.
The Panthers (2-4,1-0 CUSA) picked up the doubles point when the freshman pair of
Kamila Umarova and
Basak Akbas took down FAUs' Jemi Aguilar and Natalia Boltinskaya, 6-4. Followed by a win from the duo of senior
Maryna Veksler and freshman
Paulina Bakaite who bested the Owls' Martina Kudelova and May Kimhi, 7-5.
In singles action, FAU picked up a point when junior Maria Turillo fell to Ja'Cara Gillis 3-6, 1-6. Umarova followed with a 6-3,6-2 win over Barbora Palacatova and Sophomore
Sandra Bozinovic battled and was victorious over Nat Kallmunzerova, 6-2, 7-6. Bakaite clinched the winning point when she took down Kimhi, 6-4, 6-4.
"Overall I am happy with how we played today and I am looking forward to carrying that momentum into tomorrow's match up at home," said Petrovic.
The Panthers improve 2-4 on the season as they head into a match up with North Florida at home on Saturday, Feb. 23.
