MIAMI (Feb. 23, 2019) - The FIU women's tennis team took down UNF at home to end the weekend on a perfect note.
FIU (3-4, CUSA 1-0) downed UNF (3-5), 4- 2 on Sunday afternoon. The day opened up with an electric finish in doubles play that sent the Panthers up 1-0 early in the day.
Sophomore
Sandra Bozinovica and junior Maria Turillo took down UNFs' Valentina Mariotto and Ana Paula Melilo, 7-6 and the duo of senior
Maryna Veksler and freshman
Paulina Bakaite were victorious over Florencia Rossi and Lucia Montano, 7-6.
Freshman
Basak Akbas picked up the Panthers second win of the afternoon when she was victorious over Valentina Mariotto, 6-1, 6-1.
The Osprey answered back when they secured two singles victories, knotting the match at 2-2. Freshman Maria Solynshkina dropped her match to Sean Lodzki 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore
Sandra Bozinovic battled in a tough match with Ana Paula Melilo but was defeated 6-1, 6-2.
Veksler fought off Lucia Montano 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 to give the Panthers a 3-2 advantage and Bakaite clinched the winning point when she defeated Florencia Rossi in the tiebreaker, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).
The Panthers improve 3-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
