MIAMI (Feb. 9, 2019) - The women's diving team ended the regular season with a dominate performance at the South Florida Diving Invitational on Friday Feb.9.
FIU went up against FAU and FGCU and swept first though fourth place from the 1-meter and platform diving events.
"We still have work to do but our mentality and focus in the right place, said head diving coach
Rio Ramirez, "We are energized and having fun while performing."
Sophomore and Diver of the Week,
Rachel Foord finished in first place from the 1-meter with a personal-best score of 313.35. Freshman
Maha Gouda followed in second with a score of 298.20. Junior
Brittany Haskell took third with a score of 265.40. Junior
Brooke Bouchard finished in fourth place with a score of 256.50 and freshman
Kaitlyn Fredericks took seventh place with a score of 249.35
From the platform, Gouda took the number one spot with a score of 271.20 and Foord came in second when she scored 266.65. Haskell landed at third with a score of 220.50, followed by Fredericks who earned the fourth place spot with a score of 220.50. Bouchard finish fifth for the Panthers (201.60).
"The divers are committed to give their very best and continue to prepare for Conference USA and the NCAA Zone qualifying meet," said Ramirez.
The South Florida Invitational marks the completion of the regular season for the diving squad. The swimming and diving team will complete two weeks of training before heading to the Conference tournament to defend their title for the fifth-straight year. Action begins Wednesday Feb. 27 in Atlanta, Georgia.
