MIAMI (March 12, 2019) – The FIU baseball team dropped Tuesday night's midweek matchup with Stetson by a final score of 8-5.
The Panthers fall to 9-7 on the season. Stetson moves to 7-9 for the 2019 campaign.
Franco Aleman was dealt the loss after allowing three runs on one hit during his only inning of work. Danny Garcia was awarded the win for the Hatters
The Panther pair of
John Rodriguez and
Jose Garcia led FIU at the plate with each blasting home runs deep into the Miami night.
FIU fell behind 3-0, before Garcia stepped to the plate in the second inning and smoked a 2-1 pitch that landed over the fence. Stetson added two runs in the third before
Javier Valdes scored on a Hatter error.
Stetson led by as many as six runs before Rodriguez turned on the first pitch he saw in the fourth inning to cut the Hatter lead to 8-5.
Juan Teixeira and
Logan Allen came around to score on Rodriguez's first career home run.
Vlad Nunez of Stetson was awarded the save as both bullpens did not allow a run after the fourth inning.
UP NEXT
FIU opens Conference USA play on Friday with a three-game weekend set with Marshall. First pitch from Huntington, West Virginia is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET.
