With the win, FIU improves to 10-4 overall and extends its win streak to nine-straight matches. Boston falls to 5-5 overall on the year.
"This is a very good way to finish out four matches in a short period of time," Assistant Coach
Georgi Rumenov said. "I saw a great performance from each member of the team."
The freshman-senior duo of
Paulina Bakaite and
Maryna Veksler earned a quick, 6-1 doubles victory to begin Wednesday's match. The Terriers bounced back to take a 6-2 decision over
Maria Turrillo and
Sandra Bozinovic as the Panther duo had their four-match win streak snapped. The freshman tandem of
Basak Akbas and
Kamila Umarova clinched the doubles point for FIU however, as they won 6-4 to close out doubles action.
With a 1-0 lead, the Panthers pushed their lead to 2-0 following a 6-1, 6-3 win by Bozinovic. Turillo punched the next point for FIU when she posted a 6-3, 6-1, result over her Boston foe. Akbas sealed the shutout for FIU, after clinching her match 6-2, 6-1 to pick up the 4-0 victory for the Panthers.
"We will continue to work hard in practice and prepare for our last three regular season matches," said Rumenov.
The Panthers, who have remained undefeated for 20 days, will take a two-week break from competition before they welcome UCF on March 31 to close out the month-long
homestand at the FIU Tennis Courts.
