MIAMI (March 5, 2019) – Despite Austin Shenton blasting his fourth homer of the season, the FIU baseball team couldn't hold off Florida A&M on Tuesday night as the Panthers dropped a 3-2 decision to the Rattlers.
 
FIU led 2-1 entering the eighth inning, but FAMU rallied to score two runs and take the 3-2 victory over the Panthers.
 
With the loss, the Panthers fall to 5-6 on the year, while FAMU improves to 5-10 on the season. Gio Soto took the loss for FIU on the mound, after allowing a run late. Freshman Franco Aleman had a good outing after going six innings, allowing just one run and striking out a career-high eight batters. Jamie Grant picked up the win for the Rattlers.

Shenton led FIU at the plate, going 2-for-3 on the night and earning two RBIs. The junior's solo homer in the fourth inning was his fourth of the season and third in as many as five games.
 
FIU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, after a SAC fly by Shenton brought home Jarrett Ford. After the Rattlers tied it up at 1-1, Shenton knocked a ball into the garden over the right field wall to earn his second RBI of the night. FAMU singled up the middle to tie the game at 2-2, before a fielder's choice allowed Jared Weber to score the go-ahead run.
