MIAMI (March 9, 2019) - The FIU women's tennis team showed no signs of slowing down on Saturday, as the Panthers improved their win streak to seven.
The Panthers picked up their seventh-consecutive win, over JMU (6-6) Saturday afternoon, the 4-2 victory improves FIU's record to 8-4 overall (4-0 C-USA).
"Our doubles set the tone for consecutive wins. We are really hitting our stride as we get deeper into conference play." said Head Coach Katerina Petrovic.
Hot out of the gates, it only took the Panther duo of senior
Maryna Veksler and freshman
Paulina Bakaite 21 minutes to pick up the first victory. The pair worked a quick set and did not allow JMU to score a point. The 6-0 finish would be the first win of the afternoon. Sophomore
Sandra Bozinovic and junior
Maria Turrillo followed the lead and clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory over the Dukes.
Heading into singles play with a 1-0 advantage, the Panthers worked their magic once more.
Before Veksler swooped in to notch the second point of the afternoon,Turrillo dropped her match to Amanda Nord, 6-4, 6-1, allowing JMU the first point of the day. Umarova went on to upset Abby Amos, 6-0, 6-2. Bozinovic clinched the winning point 6-4,6-4 after the Dukes secured their second point.
