HOUSTON (April 7, 2019) - The FIU women's tennis team closed out the regular season on Sunday afternoon, as the Panthers dropped a 4-0 decision to Rice on the road.
With the loss, FIU (10-7 overall, 4-1 C-USA) dropped it's perfect conference record, while Rice (12-7, 1-0 C-USA) picked up its first conference win of the season.
Sunday's match began outdoors at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on the Owl's campus, before rain forced the match indoors to conclude the day.
Rice jumped out to a 1-0 following a win in doubles action, before the rain set in for singles play and forced the match indoors to the Sweetwater Country Club.
With a 1-0 advantage, the Owls took matches over
Basak Akbas,
Maria Turrillo and
Sandra Bozinovic as Rice clinched the 4-0 victory. All three matches were straight-set decisions.
