Katarina Petrovic announced on Wednesday afternoon the signing of VCU transfer Marina Alcaide who will join the squad as a junior in 2019-20.
"We are excited to have Marina joining our program. Marina is hard worker and proven winner that will help our program right away. I am looking forward to seeing Marina on the court and making an immediate impact."
After spending two years at VCU, Alcaide, from Gurb, Spain, makes her way to FIU. In her sophomore season, she was named First Team All-Atlantic 10 and guided VCU to back-to-back A-10 Championships. She recorded a 20-5 singles record and went 13-1 in the No. 3 spot. She achieved a combined doubles record of 12-6 and received A-10 Co-Player of the Week honors.
As a freshman with the Rams, she was recognized by the league as an All-Atlantic 10 Second Team selection and posted an overall singles record of 15-2 and a combined doubles record of 12-5.
Prior to her collegiate career, Alcaide earned one WTA ranking point and won the team championship at the 2016 Catalonia Absolute Championship with Reial Club de Tennis Barcelona.
She was also a finalist of the 2015 Catalonia Absolute Championship, as well as a finalist for the team championship at the 2016 Spanish Absolute Championship with Reial Club de Tennis Barcelona
