MIAMI (June 26, 2019) – Next up in our Q&A series with FIU football is safety Olin Cushion III. The Panther is coming off his most productive season after his stellar 2018, playing in all 13 games and starting in 11 of those. 

A Miami native, Cushion finished the season with 65 total tackles which ranked third on the team. The biggest moment of 2018 for Cushion came in the waning seconds against Middle Tennessee when the safety sealed FIU's 24-21 win with an interception in the back of the end zone. Cushion is now preparing for a big senior season at FIU, as he took time to sit down with FIUSports.com for a little back-and-forth Q&A.

Q: What's it like playing for Coach Butch Davis?
A: "Playing for Coach Davis is real fun but, when it's time to get to work its either you're all in or you're not in at all."

Q: What was your favorite moment from last season?
A: "The Middle Tennessee game and catching the pick to end the game."

Q: What small thing do you need to do this offseason for the team to be better?
A: "Help the freshmen come along by welcoming them to the pack."

Q: What are your goals for 2019?
A: "C-USA Championship has to be done, because it's never been done before." 

Q: Who is the alpha dog on defense?
A: "Is this a trick question? Haha, because I have to say myself."

Q: Describe Miami to a person who has never been.
A: "Hot and lovely." 

Q: Describe your fashion style.
A: "War ready!"

Q: What would you rap name be?
A: "7-9 King." 

Q: What's your favorite meme? 
A: "305."

Entering its 18th year of football in 2019, the FIU Panthers are coming off a program-best nine wins a season ago. FIU capped 2018 with a 35-32 victory over Toledo in the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl to finish the season 9-4 overall. Under legendary head coach Butch Davis, the Panthers have earned back-to-back bowl appearances and 17 wins in the last two years.
