MIAMI (June 5, 2019) – Next up in our Q&A series with FIU football is kicker
Jose Borregales. The Panther is coming off another great season at FIU, after earning a spot on the Conference USA Honorable Mention Team for his efforts on special teams.
A Miami native, Borregales has served as FIU's clutch kicker the past two seasons. The rising sophomore made 14 field goals this past season and broke the school-record for most PATs made in a single-season, after making 54. Borregales also booted a school-record 53-yard field goal in a pivotal conference win over Middle Tennessee. The kicker is now preparing for his junior season at FIU, as he took time to sit down with FIUSports.com for a little back-and-forth Q&A.
Q: What's it like playing for Coach Butch Davis?
A: "Playing for Coach Davis is like having a really tough teacher in a class. They will always push you and tell you things you don't want to hear, but at the end of the day, he does that to make us better as students and players."
Q: What was your favorite moment from last season?
A: "My favorite moment from last year as a player, personally, was when I broke the record for longest field goal in FIU history. But team wise, it was the bowl game and how we all came together and ended the season the way we wanted to, as champions."
Q: What goals do you have after FIU?
A: "My main goal after FIU is obviously to graduate, but also make it to the NFL. And if that doesn't work out, probably stay involved in sports and coach kicking for little kids and high school kids."
Q: How would you describe Miami to an outsider?
A: "Miami is a fast pace, hot, outgoing, multicultural city. It's a place where you can do anything and everything outside, because there is always good weather outside. Then again, it changes on you in less than five minutes."
Q: Describe your fashion style.
A: "My fashion style is really, just sporty haha! When I'm outside of sports I still wear athletic gear with socks and slides on. On the field, I'm a whole different person, I make people believe I play receiver or something by the way my swag looks on the field. But like I always say, if you look good, you play good."
Q: Favorite food establishment in Miami?
A: "My favorite food establishment has to be La Coriana. Mostly because it's my country's food, but it's also just so delicious."
Q: What would your rap name be?
A: "I think my rap name would just be my nickname (FIFA) just cause everyone calls me by that. It's either that or FIF which is the short version of FIFA."
