Panther Q&A: Napoleon Maxwell

Get to know the senior running back

MIAMI (July 10, 2019) – Next up in our Q&A series with FIU football is running back Napoleon Maxwell. The senior led FIU on the ground last season, rushing for seven touchdowns and racking up 684 yards, while his 5.3 yards-per-carry average ranked ninth in the league. 

Maxwell's breakout game came against UMass last season, as the Panther rushed for a career-high 104 yards on 18 carries against the Minutemen. A St. Petersburg, Florida native, Maxwell has played in 32 games over his career with the Panthers and has rushed for 1,415 yards on the ground. Maxwell is now preparing for his final season at FIU, as he took time to sit down with FIUSports.com for a little back-and-forth Q&A.

Q: What's it like playing for Coach Butch Davis?
A: "Playing for Coach Davis is an indescribable experience. It has been everything any individual could ask for. It's like a hard love relationship that brings the best out of you." 

Q: What was your favorite moment from last season? 
A: "Favorite moment was rushing the field after the bowl game victory and celebrating." 

Q: Who is the hardest hitter on the team?
A: "Pound for pound Richard Dames. I've seen the dude make some big time hits."

Q: What RB did you love watching growing up?
A: "Chris Johnson and LaDainian Tomlinson." 

Q: Describe Miami to a person who has never been
A: "Miami is a very busy city with a huge night life atmosphere. It's also a very competitive city when it comes to sports. Overall, it's very beautiful city with lots of things to do for fun."

Q: Describe your fashion style
A: "Sporty and drippy when necessary." 

Q: Who is your go to team on Madden?
A: "Dallas Cowboys (America's team)."

Q: What would you rap name be? 
A: "MadMax."

Entering its 18th year of football in 2019, the FIU Panthers are coming off a program-best nine wins a season ago. FIU capped 2018 with a 35-32 victory over Toledo in the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl to finish the season 9-4 overall. Under legendary head coach Butch Davis, the Panthers have earned back-to-back bowl appearances and 17 wins in the last two years.
