LEXINGTON, Kentucky (Aug. 12, 2019) - The FIU volleyball program was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) earlier this month, as the organization recognized teams around the country who succeeded not only on the court, but also in the classroom.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

"I am so proud of both the indoor and the beach volleyball teams for being champions off the court by achieving AVCA Academic Awards," Head Coach Rita Buck-Crockett said. "We take our academics very serious and it shows annually. Congrats, to my ladies as it was well deserved."

The indoor squad will get their preseason training underway on Tuesday, Aug. 13 as the Panthers begin preparing for the 2019 season. The squad finished 2018 with 19 wins and advanced to the program's first-ever C-USA finals to cap a stellar season. The Blue & Gold will open the 2019 season on the road on Aug. 30 at Indiana, before returning home on Sept. 5-6 to host Panther Fest.
