MIAMI (Aug. 19, 2019) - The FIU football program added another Power 5 opponent to its future schedule on Monday, as FIU entered into an agreement with Big 12 foe Texas Tech to play a game in 2021.
The two squads will open the 2021 season on Thursday, Sept. 2 in Lubbock, Texas.
"This game further proves our commitment to schedule top-notch, quality opponents for our future," Head Coach
Butch Davis said. "Texas Tech is a very good program historically and they'll be a great challenge for our team. This game will also be a great opportunity for FIU to continuing growing our brand on the national stage as well."
The Panthers and Red Raiders have only met once on the football field, as Texas Tech took an early September decision in 2005. That game was played on September 10 at Texas Tech.
Monday's announcement adds to FIU's pair of previous agreements with UCF and Arkansas. FIU and UCF will play a home-and-home in 2020 and 2022, while the Panthers will travel to Arkansas in 2023.

Butch Davis, the Panthers have earned back-to-back bowl appearances and 17 wins in the last two years.
