Women's Soccer Hosts Charlotte and Marshall

The Panthers begin a two-game home stint against C-USA opponents tomorrow

MIAMI (Sep. 25, 2019) – The FIU women's soccer team is back on its home pitch this week, as it continues conference play against Charlotte on Thursday, Sept. 26, before welcoming Marshall to Miami on Sunday, Sept. 29.  

The Panthers and 49ers are set to face off at 7p.m. ET on Thursday, while kickoff against the Thundering Herd is set for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.

CHARLOTTE PREVIEW
The 49ers finished last season 8-9, earning a 2-7 mark on the road. In the 2019 campaign thus far, Charlotte has posted a 5-3 record, including a 2-1 mark on the road. The 49ers have dropped their only C-USA matchup this season after a 1-0 loss at the hands of Rice this past Sunday in Houston, Texas. Both FIU and Charlotte look to gain their first points in the C-USA standings this week.

MARSHALL PREVIEW 
The Thundering Herd finished last season 5-9-3, earning a 3-5-2 mark on the road. In the 2019 campaign thus far, Marshall has posted a 2-7 record, including a 0-5 mark on the road. Marshall also looks to gain its first points in the C-USA standings this week.

INSIDE THE SERIES
FIU trails Charlotte 0-6 in the all-time series, with the Panthers looking to claim their first victory against the program on Thursday. The last meeting between the two clubs in Miami was on Sept. 23, 2016, with FIU having traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina for the past two matchups against the 49ers. Marshall also holds an advantage over FIU with a 4-0-2 record in the all-time series. Last time the two programs met in Miami was on Oct. 14, 2016, with that meeting resulting in a 1-1 draw for FIU. The Thundering Herd have only beaten the Panthers once in Miami.

LEADING THE PANTHERS
Freshman Ellen Halseth and junior-transfer Yolanda Albalat Collado are leading the Panther pack this season with a team-high of seven points. Halseth has a team-high of three goals and 11 shots-on-goal in 2019, and has also contributed an assist for FIU. Albalat Collado has a team-leading three assists on the season, and has contributed two goals for FIU. Sophomore Rayquel Berry has also produced for the Panthers, as the local Miami product is tied with Halseth for the team-lead with three goals. Berry's six points rank third on the team.

NEWCOMERS MAKING IMPACT
Three first-year Panthers are making their presence felt for FIU early in the 2019 campaign, as Halseth, Albalat Collado, and junior transfer Laura Chavez are responsible for a sum of 17 points this season. The three newcomers, along with Berry, have been providing a potent punch to the Panther offense thus far.

UP NEXT
After wrapping up their two games back home, the Panthers will hit the road again for a couple conference showdowns. FIU faces Southern Miss on Friday, Oct. 4 for a 5 p.m. ET kickoff against the Golden Eagles, before traveling to Louisiana Tech on Sunday, Oct. 6 for a 2 p.m. ET start against the Bulldogs.
