MIAMI (Sept. 28, 2019) - The FIU swim and dive team took down the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday morning, as the Panthers bested the eight-mile foe by 38 points.
The Panthers improve to 1-1 on the season; while the Hurricanes drop to 0-2. FIU clinched 10 of 16 event wins to secure the 169-131 victory over Miami.

"Today was exactly what FIU is all about," said Head Coach
Randy Horner, "From the minute the ladies stepped foot on the platform, the energy was vibrant and endless."
The morning greeted the Panthers with a ring ceremony; recognizing FIU for its fifth consecutive Conference USA Championship last year.
Following the ring ceremony, FIU led off with a victory in the 200 medley relay. The team of senior
Julia Miranda, senior
Taylor Grabenhorst, junior
Sara Gyertyanffy and sophomore
Helga Fodor led the way for the Panthers as they tapped in at 1:44.36.
Junior
Stephanie Hussey had another impressive run in the 1000 free with her swim of 10:24.12; claiming her first event win of the season. Later in the day, she won the 500 free event with a time of 5:02.59. Freshman sensation
Lamija Medosevic went on to secure stellar victories in all three of her events; 50 free (23.77), 100 free (51.50) and 200 free (1:51.50).
Swimming in just her second meet for the Panthers, Miranda impressed in the 100 back coming out with a first-place finish with her time of 56.39. She went on to earn second-place in the 200 back with a finish time of 2:03.53.
Grabenhorst turned heads in the pool again, as the senior picked up first place in the 200 breast when she touched at 2:17.19 and missed first place in the 100 breast by .06 when she came in at 1:03.66 for the number two spot.
"In the last two meets, I have seen Grabenhorst do things she has never done before and I am very impressed with her," said Horner.
FIU did not slow down in the lanes to continue the day, as the Panthers picked up nine more points in the 200 fly when freshman
Emily Cordovi finished second (2:05.62), followed by fellow freshman and teammate Kasia Kolodziej in third (2:05.69), and Hussey in fourth (2:06.38).
Gyteryanffy went on to secure a win in the 100 fly with a time of 55.93, and then captured second in the 200 IM when she touched at 2:06.61. FIU completed action in the pool with a 400 freestyle relay victory, besting Miami by 2.53 to secure the Panthers' 10th event win of the day.
From the springboard, sophomore
Maha Gouda captured second in the 1-meter event with her score of 298.95. Following Gouda was
Rachel Foord in fifth (285.90) and
Brittany Haskell in sixth (232.80). Foord led the way for FIU from the 3-meter board, posting a second-place finish with her score of 301.65, while Gouda placed fifth (249,60) and senior
Brooke Bouchard in sixth (242.78)

The Panthers are back in action next weekend on Oct. 4-5 when they host TCU, LSU, FAU, Army, Pittsburgh, ODU, GW, Grand Canyon and Keiser at the TYR Classic.
