MIAMI (Sept. 5, 2019) - The FIU volleyball team is set to open the home slate this Friday, as the Panthers welcome Stetson and Hofstra for a pair of matches. 

FIU will host Stetson on Friday at 12:30 p.m., before taking a break in the action and going up against Hofstra to cap the day at 6:30 p.m. Charleston Southern was scheduled to visit Miami this weekend, but had to cancel its trip after Hurricane Dorian set its track to the Carolinas.

The Panthers will look to bounce back after last weekend's 0-3 start, as the Blue & Gold looks ahead to some home cooking at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center. 

SCOUTING STETSON
Stetson sports a 1-1 record on the year, after defeating Niagara (3-0) to open the season before dropping a match to Florida Atlantic (1-3). The Hatters earned a 16-13 mark last season, while posting a 5-6 record away from home. Stetson's roster is comprised of six upperclass players, with three seniors and three juniors. 

SCOUTING HOFSTRA
After starting the year 0-2, Hofstra has bounced back to win its last two matches. The Pride has earned wins over Holy Cross (3-0) and Stony Brook (3-1). Hofstra earned an impressive 25-8 mark last season, winning the CAA and earing a trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Pride's postseason run ended in the first round however, after dropping a tough contest to Nebraska. 

2018 RECAP
The 2018 FIU indoor volleyball season featured one of the program's most triumphant campaigns in recent memory as the team posted a 19-12 overall record to go along with a 9-5 mark in Conference USA play. The 19 wins marked the highest victory total for the program since 2011 when that year's squad recorded a total of 21 wins. The Panthers finished the regular season sixth overall in the Conference USA standings, but got hot at the perfect time, performing excellently in the conference tournament and reaching their first-ever C-USA Championship match.
