LINCOLN, NE (Jan. 25, 2020) - The Panthers completed the weekend in Nebraska with earning a 1-1 mark.
Friday opened up with a matchup against the Cornhuskers which ended in 4-0 upset, but the Panthers turned it around on Saturday and swept UMKC 4-0.
In doubles action against the Roos,
Kamila Umarova and
Basak Akbas were the first to finish defeating their opponents, 6-0.
Marina Alcaide and
Ashley Vielma finished second and clinched the doubles point in a 6-0 victory over the Roos.
Francisca Vergara was the first to finish her singles match, upsetting Rhiannon McBlane in two sets, 6-0, 6-2. Umarova took down Michela Xibilia, 6-0, 6-2 for the third point, and finally Akbas went on to seal the deal for FIU in a 7-5, 6-4 victory over her opponent, aiding the Panthers in a sweep over UMKC.
UP NEXT
The Panthers travel home for three consecutive weeks of tennis on the home courts. Beginning Feb. 1 against FGCU with action slated to begin at high noon.
