HUNTINGTON, West Virginia (Jan. 30, 2020) –The FIU women's basketball team picked up a 68-65 road victory against Marshall on Thursday night.
The Panthers improve to 5-15 overall and 2-7 in conference play on the season, while Marshall falls to 7-12 overall and 2-6 in league action.
FIU was led by
Ieva Spigule, as she posted a career-high 18 points.
Chelsea Guimaraes also helped in the victory, earning her fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Marshall's Savannah Wheeler led her team with 19 points on the evening.
The Panthers came out strong during the first quarter, outscoring Marshall 23-13. FIU and Marshall posted a tight second quarter, as FIU outscored Marshall by just one point to take a 43-32 lead into the locker room. The Herd rallied in the third, cutting the FIU lead to 52-50 entering the final period of play. FIU jumped out to a 68-62 advantage after a Spigule three with under 30 seconds left, as the Panthers held on to the 68-65 road win.
