MIAMI (Jan. 9, 2020) –The FIU women's basketball team earned its first Conference USA win of the season, as the Panthers took down North Texas with a 58-56 victory.

UNT had an offensive possession as time expired, but the Panther defense forced a missed shot by the Mean Green to close out the game. 
 
FIU was led by Diene Diane who posted 20 points, two rebounds and one assist on the afternoon. The 20-point effort was a career-high for Diane. UNT's Trena Mims led her team with 12 points and six rebounds.
 
The Panthers came out strong during the first quarter, after outscoring UNT 13-4 and leading 20-4 at one point in the second quarter before the Mean Green bounced back. The two squads were nearly dead even in the second half, each scoring 31 points, but a pair of free throws by Bre'Osha Scott sealed the game prior to the defensive stop by the Panthers.
