MIAMI (Dec. 1, 2020) – The FIU men's basketball team hosted Central Michigan for a contest at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Tuesday night. The Panthers topped the Chippewas 96-76.

With the victory, FIU moves to 3-0 for the year while CMU goes to 0-2 for its 2020-21 campaign with the loss.

In the opening half, FIU went 40.5% from the floor and 37.5% from three, holding a 41-30 lead over Central Michigan. Eric Lovett led all players at the break with 12 points, all coming from beyond the arc. Radshad Davis and Isaiah Banks had four rebounds apiece while Antonio Daye, Jr. paced the squad with four assists at halftime.

Coming out of the locker room, the momentum stayed in FIU's favor as the team was 19-30 overall and 9-17 from three. The Panther squad held the Chippewas to 41% shooting and outscored the opposition 55-46 in the second half to take home the 96-76 win.

Overall, FIU shot 50.7% for the game and 43.9% from beyond the arc. The team was a three-pointer shy of tying the program record set against Cleveland State last season. Five Panther players in scored double figures, while Lovett led the way with 20 points. Tevin Brewer tallied 14 points and went 4-4 from three. Daye, Jr. posted 11 points while Dante Wilcox and DJ Mitchell notched 10 apiece.

The Panthers host Jacksonville State for their next contest on Friday, Dec. 4. Tipoff from the Ocean Bank Convocation Center is slated for 7 p.m. ET.
