FORT MYERS, Florida (Dec. 16, 2020) – The FIU men's basketball team finished its 2020 road slate when the Panthers faced off against Florida Gulf Coast at Alico Arena on Wednesday night. FIU topped the Eagles 85-69 for the team's first road win this season.
With the victory, FIU moves to 5-1 this season, while the loss dropped FGCU to 3-2 for the year.
The Panthers started the contest shooting 43.9% from the floor and 38.1% from beyond the arc while holding FGCU to shooting 31.4% from the field and just 28.6% from three. Both
Antonio Daye, Jr. (10) and
Radshad Davis (12) scored in double figures in the opening frame as FIU went to the locker room with the 48-31 advantage.
Coming out of the break, the Panthers kept the momentum going, shooting 53.8% in the half and 50% from three. Despite the Eagles outscoring the Panthers 38-37 in the closing frame, FIU came away with the 85-69 victory.
FIU shot 47.8% from the floor while drilling 13 three-pointers during the win. Daye Jr. logged 23 points and a team-best six assists. Davis closed out the night with 16 points and eight rebounds, and
Eric Lovett posted 14 points.
