MIAMI (Dec. 7, 2020) - In this FIU Athletics weekly recap, hoops season is officially in full swing for the FIU men's and women's basketball teams.
Below is a brief recap of how each FIU team performed this past week.Â
Men's Basketball (Follow @FIUHoops)
Jeremy Ballard's squad picked up two more wins to stay unbeaten this past week, as the Panthers downed Central Michigan and Jacksonville State at home.
Antonio Daye, Jr. scored 28 and 11 to lead FIU as the Panthers earned their first 4-0 start since the 2002-03 season. FIU hits the road for the first time this weekend, as the Panthers travel to North Florida on Saturday, Dec. 12. Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m. ET.
Women's Basketball (Follow @FIU_WBB)
The ladies officially opened their season this past weekend, as the Panthers split a pair of games on the road.
Jesyka Burks-Wiley earned her first win of her head coaching career on Sunday, as the Panthers downed Jacksonville 64-59 on the road. Newcomer
Kyla Nelson led the way for FIU, scoring a career-high 23 points after draining seven three-pointers against the Dolphins. Burks-Wiley's squad is back in action next Monday, as the Panthers officially open the home slate against Florida Memorial on Dec. 12. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. ET at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
