Swim and Dive Gears Up For C-USA Championships

FIU seeks sixth-straight C-USA title this weekend

ATLANTA (Feb. 25, 2020) - The FIU swimming & diving team officially opens championship season on Wednesday, Feb. 26, as the Panthers get set for the first day of competition at the Conference USA Championships in Atlanta, Georgia.

The reigning C-USA champions seek their sixth-straight title as the Panthers head into competition at the McAuley Aquatic Center on the campus of Georgia Tech.

"It's that time of year again," head coach Randy Horner said. "The focus narrows and we have a chance to do something no one has ever done before."

FIU will attempt to break the C-USA swim and dive record for most consecutive championships, as a sixth straight victory would surpass SMU who achieved the feat from 2006-10.

"Since the championship last year, we went back to the drawing board and looked at what we needed to do better," Horner said. "One of the focuses was the little things, day in and day out, going back to the things that have made this program so successful for the past nine years."

If the Panthers should win the title this weekend, it will mark the third-straight senior class to win a C-USA championship in all four years at FIU. The 2020 class of Ann BarralBrooke BouchardAlexa BryantBrittany HaskellTaylor GrabenhorstNicole HunnewellRachel Whitaker and Berta Triola will make a run at achieving the 4-0 feat this week in Atlanta.

"Every class is special and this one is no different," Horner said. "It is sad to see them go, but rewarding to see what they have done in the four years they've been here and we always want them to go out on top. We want them to keep the momentum going and keep writing the story for FIU swimming and diving."
