LONGWOOD, Florida (Feb. 28, 2020) - The FIU softball team split on day one in Longwood, as the Panthers picked up a 7-1 win against Dartmouth before falling to No. 11 Kentucky in the nightcap.
FIU scored three runs in the first inning of the opening game against Dartmouth, as
Kayla Whitehead and
Jocelyn Alonso earned a pair of RBI doubles to get the scoring going for the Blue & Gold. FIU would cap its scoring with a two-run RBI single by
Venessa Gallegos to pad the lead at 7-0 in the final frame, before Dartmouth snuck a run in to bring the final score to 7-1.
Allison Muraskin pitched her third complete game of the season in the win, allowing just a run and striking out a season-high 10 batters.
FIU dropped the second game to the 11th-ranked Wildcats, as the Panthers fell 17-1.
Kallie Jones earned her first home run of the season in the defeat.
UP NEXT
FIU will continue play at the Spring Games on Saturday, Feb. 29 as they face Detroit Mercy (11 a.m.) and Albany (1:30 p.m.).
