MIAMI (Feb. 7, 2020) - After hours of being delayed on Friday, the FIU women's tennis team was finally able to compete in its first home match of the spring season which resulted in a 4-3 victory over the Liberty Lady Flames.
The day began with doubles action, as the duo of Kristina Miletic and Sandra Bozinovic picked up a 6-1 win over their Lady Flame foes on court No. 3. Ashley Vielma and Marina Alcaide dropped their match on court two, 6-1, before Basak Akbas and Kamila Umarova fought back from a three-point deficit to make it a 5-4 game but ultimately fell 7-5 to their opponents on court number one.
Liberty entered singles play with a 1-0 lead, but FIU answered back with four points to seal the deal on their home turf.
Alcaide was first to finish her match with a 6-0, 6-3, win to give FIU its first point of the match. Miletic was next to strike in a 6-2,6-1 win. As the sun began to set, Bozinovic picked up the third point of the match owning a 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) victory over her Lady Flame competition. In the deciding point, Fransisca Vergara prospered and came out with a 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-4) victory to give the Panthers their first win at home.

The Panthers return home on Sunday, Feb. 16 to host Memphis at 12:00 p.m. ET on the FIU Tennis Courts.
