CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (March 1, 2020) – The FIU men's basketball team took on Conference USA foe Charlotte on Sunday afternoon at Halton Arena. The Panthers topped the 49ers 67-52, handing Charlotte just its second loss at home this season.
With the victory, FIU goes to 18-11 for the year and 9-7 in conference play. The loss puts Charlotte at 15-12 this season and 9-7 against C-USA teams.
FIU began the contest shooting 45.2% from the field, but the team was just 2-9 from beyond the arc. Antonio Daye, Jr. led the Panthers with 12 points in the opening half, and the team went to the locker room up 32-30.
Coming out of the break, the Panther squad kept its momentum going, posting a 12-0 run in the half and leading by as many as 21 points in the contest. FIU held the opposition to 23.1% shooting in the second half while posting a 51.7 field-goal percentage to help the Panthers to a 67-52 victory over Charlotte.
Overall, FIU went 48.3% from the field and 33.3% from three during the win. Osasumwen Osaghae recorded his league-leading seventh double-double this season, posting 19 points and 12 rebounds. Daye Jr. followed the senior with 14 points of his own while Trejon Jacob was the third Panther player with double-figure scoring, tallying 13 points during the victory.
