Panther Q&A: Shemar Thornton

MIAMI (May 18, 2020) - Next up in our Q&A series with FIU football is wide receiver, Shemar Thornton. The Miami native is FIU's leading returning receiver, after he hauled in nearly 700 yards in 2019. 

Thornton's breakout game came against Old Dominion last season, as he caught six passes for 125 yards. Thornton hauled in five touchdown grabs, which led the team, with one of those coming in the 30-24 win over Miami.

Q: What was your most memorable moment from last season?
A: "Beating Miami and Coach Davis dancing in the locker room."
 
Q: What goals do you have for next year?
A: "We want to go undefeated and we feel we have the talent to do it."
 
Q: How's the chemistry with the WR group? How do you motivate each other?
A: "The chemistry is a lot closer this season. I motivate the younger guys by leading by example and showing them where I started from up until now."
 
Q: What are your thoughts on Coach Butch Davis?
A: "Coach Davis is a phenomenal coach and a great motivator. He stays on us as much as possible and always focuses on the small details."
 
Q: Who is the toughest to go against in practice?
A: "Rishard Dames. He's just like me and we are both high competitors and have always been going at it with each other since freshman year."
 
Q: For outsiders, what would you tell them is the best part of living in Miami?
A: "I'll have to say the weather. Being from Miami myself and never having to deal with any major weather issues is amazing."
 
Q: Where is the best place to eat in Miami?
A: "There are so many good spots to eat at, but if I have to pick one I'll go with Crabman 305."
 
Q: Who was your first pro jersey of?
A: "LaDainian Tomlinson."
 
Q: What shows are you binge watching right now?
A: "I've been watching the Last Dance series of Michael Jordan but on Netflix I watch #blackAF."
