MIAMI (June 11, 2020) - Next in the Panther Q&A series featuring the FIU men's basketball coaching staff is associate head coach David Cason.

Q: What made you want to join the FIU men's basketball coaching staff?
A: "Jeremy Ballard and his vision of the program he wanted to build."

Q: How is it being on Coach Ballard's staff?
A: "I have not had this much fun on a staff in a long time. No agendas. You know your role as an assistant coach. Most importantly, we work toward common goals."

Q: What makes FIU special?
A: "The relationship with the players, staff and support staff."

Q: What's been your favorite memory since joining the FIU staff?
A: "Haha, I have so many! Our office atmosphere is unreal (non-stop funny). Our players have had a tremendous impact in that regard. They are in our office all the time. The road trips, wins, practices, etc. They are all memorable. Tough to pick one."

Q: What experiences from your playing days have helped you as a coach?
A: "I was not a good player. I was taught to be a leader at a young age. I have a younger brother, and everything I did, I had to involve him. I did not like it, but I quickly embraced it. To this day, he and I are very close. Those experiences and the experiences I had as a player helped me become a strong leader as a coach."

Q: What player has been the most fun to work with over the course of your career?
A: "Tough question. I have so many. They have all been fun, some crazy, but fun."

Q: In your opinion, which coach do you look up to or want to take after for your own philosophies?
A: "
Coach Ballard has an innate ability to coach & lead our guys with patience & grace. I have learned a great deal from him in all areas, but this trait impacts me the most."

Q: If you could play 1v1 against anyone, past or present, who would you play and do you think you'd win?
A:  "Antonio Daye, Jr., he cannot guard the half spin. Tevin Brewer, he cannot guard me at all and Isaiah Banks, I actually jump higher than him. You asked for one but those three cannot guard me. Coach Cason 3-0. Like Coach JRod said, release the tapes."

Q: If you weren't coaching basketball, what would you be doing or what other sport would you be coaching?
A: "I actually wanted to be a Federal Agent (FBI). Unfortunately, I had a loved one in Law Enforcement that was slain in the line of duty when I was young. After that, all of the women in my family pushed me toward sports."
