MIAMI (Jan. 14, 2021) – The FIU men's basketball team hosted Florida Atlantic for a Conference USA rivalry game on Thursday night. The Panthers dropped the contest to the Owls 81-79.

FIU had a chance for the win as time expired, but a three pointer missed the mark with no time remaining. The Panthers will look to bounce back on Saturday, as FIU travels to FAU to close out the series. 

In the opening half of Thursday's game, FIU shot 37.9% from the field and 50% from three to lead the Owls 31-29. Individually, Radshad Davis led all players with 11 points, and Tevin Brewer tallied three assists during the period.

Coming out of the locker room, FIU went back-and-forth with FAU shooting 17-32 from the floor and 9-17 from beyond the arc. Javaunte Hawkins had the hot hand in the half, going 4-4 from three during the period, however, it was not enough as the Owls shot 58.6% during the period and outscored the Panthers 52-48, handing FIU the 81-79 loss.

Overall, the Panthers shot 45.9% from the floor during the loss while going 51.9% from beyond the arc. FIU's bench outscored the FAU bench 33-23, but the Owls held the 34-26 advantage in the paint. Four FIU players scored in double figures, with Davis leading the way with 16 points. Defensively, Anthony Mason and Dante Wilcox tallied two-blocks each.

The Panthers hit the road for a rematch with the Owls. Tipoff from FAU Arena is slated for 4 p.m. ET.
