MIAMI (Jan. 22, 2021) – The FIU men's basketball team began its Conference USA series with Marshall at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Friday night. FIU's comeback against the Thundering Herd fell short, 79-66.
The Panthers opened the game shooting just 32.4% from the floor while allowing Marshall to go 64.5% from the field at the break. The Panther bench outscored the Herd 17-9, but at the half, FIU trailed 48-27.
Coming out of the locker room, FIU found its rhythm, and a 12-0 run capped off by a Bernie Andre layup put the Panthers behind just 62-60 with 9:42 remaining. The team closed out the game shooting 46.9% from the field in the half, but the Panthers were unable to complete the comeback, falling 79-66.
FIU closed out the contest going 39.4% from the floor and 33.3% from three. The Panther bench closed out the game outscoring Marshall's reserves 29-18. Tevin Brewer, Jonathan Nunez, and Dimon Carrigan posted 11 points apiece to pace the Panther squad. Carrigan also logged seven rebounds in the loss.
The Panthers close out the series with Marshall on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 2 p.m. ET. Fans can catch the broadcast on Stadium.
