MIAMI (Jan. 23, 2021) – The FIU men's basketball team closed out its Conference USA series with Marshall on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers fell to the Thundering Herd 89-72 at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
FIU began the contest shooting 48.3% from the field but trailed Marshall 43-36 at the half.
Javaunte Hawkins led the Panther squad with 11 points in the opening frame, shooting 4-5 from the floor and 3-4 from three.
Coming out of the locker room, the team went 44.8% from the field and 35.3% from beyond the arc.
Antonio Daye, Jr. logged 14 points in the half, but it was not enough as the Panthers fell 89-72.
Overall, the Panthers shot 46.6% from the floor, and the bench outscored Marshall 37-26 in the loss. Hawkins led the Panthers with a season-high 20 points. Daye, Jr. posted 18 points while
Dimon Carrigan recorded 10 rebounds.
FIU gets ready for a C-USA set at Charlotte. Tipoff for the contest on Friday, Jan. 30, at Halton Arena is slated for 6 p.m. ET, while the game Saturday, Jan. 31, begins at 4 p.m.
