MIAMI (Jan. 26, 2021) – The FIU indoor volleyball team begins its season with a match against Jacksonville at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Wednesday afternoon. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
Wednesday's season opener against Jacksonville can be streamed on CUSA.tv.
ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
Fiorella Murillo was named to the All-Conference USA Preseason Team prior to the 2021 spring season. Murillo led FIU with 3.86 points per set last season and ranked second on the squad with 269 kills during the 2019 campaign. The Cali, Colombia native recorded four games with 20 or more kills last season, including a career-best 29 kills against Charlotte. Murillo finished her junior season ranked sixth in the conference for kills (3.35) and points per set.
SPRING SEASON
The Conference USA Board of Directors announced in August the postponement of fall team sports (with the exception of football), as well as fall C-USA championships in those sports to the spring of 2021. This move came following the NCAA Division I Board of Directors' decision to move Division I fall championships to spring. The conference sports affected were men's and women's soccer and women's volleyball.
The move to the spring allowed C-USA schools to not only compete for a C-USA Championship, but have an opportunity to play for a spot in the NCAA Championships.
SWIMMING WITH THE DOLPHINS
Jacksonville enters the contest at 0-1 this season. The league's head coaches picked JU to finish seventh in the ASUN. The Dolphins are hitting .106 for the season with 11.3 kills per set.
JU began its season at Davidson, where the Wildcats defeated the Dolphins in straight sets. Hannah Edelman logged 10 kills while Camryn Honn posted 27 assists during the opening match.
