Bluffton, South Carolina (Jan. 29, 2021) – Carolina Andrade and the FIU women's golf team opened the 2021 spring season on the right paw Friday, as the Panthers sit in first place at the Battle at Old South. 

Andrade fired a first round, one-under par 71 to pace the individual leaderboard by three shots. The senior collected four birdies over the opening round.
 
Millburn Ho made her debut as a Panther with a 76 on Friday, as the freshman finished stroke play in a tie for fourth overall.  Agueda Cortilla is also in the top 10 after Friday's action, shooting an opening round 77 to tie for seventh. Gabriela Powel is not too far off, tying for 12th after shooting a 79.

Hannah Mitterberger, also making her Panther debut on Friday, shot an 82 and is tied for 24th, while Ema Dobiasova is tied for 31st after an opening round 85.

Saturday's match play will be determined by Friday's stroke play results, while the final two teams will battle it out on Sunday in championship match play. FIU will have a bye Saturday's opening round of match play.
