MURFREESBORO, Tennessee (Jan. 8, 2021) — The FIU men's basketball team faced Middle Tennessee at the Murphy Center on Friday night for the Panthers' first Conference USA road game of the season. Antonio Daye, Jr. led the way with 17 points as FIU took down the Blue Raiders 68-55.
FIU moved to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in C-USA play, while MT dropped to 2-5 for the year and 0-1 against league opponents.
In the opening half, the Panthers shot 38.7% from the floor but shot just 6-20 from three. FIU forced 12 Middle Tennessee turnovers, and the Panthers went to the locker room with the 32-24 advantage. Radshad Davis led all players with 11 points, including three makes from beyond the arc.
The team improved in the second half, shooting 59.3% from the field and going a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe. The Panthers outscored the Blue Raiders 36-31 in the period to come away with the 68-55 win.
FIU shot 48.3% overall and 75% from the line but just 25% from three during the victory. The Panther squad dominated in the paint, outscoring Middle Tennessee 40-18. Daye, Jr. posted 17 points and seven rebounds. Davis (15) and Tevin Brewer (13) also scored in double figures. Defensively, Dimon Carrigan led the squad with three blocks.
