FIU Blanks Conference USA Leader Old Dominion 1-0 For Road Win

Panthers Post Third Shutout of the Season

Norfolk, Virginia (Oct. 22, 2021) – The FIU women's soccer team posted a 1-0 shutout at Conference USA leader Old Dominion on Friday night in its final road match of the regular season.

The loss was the first conference setback this season for the Monarchs and the goal scored by the Panthers marked the first allowed by Old Dominion in league play this season.
 
The Panthers were aggressive from start to finish as the Blue & Gold consistently worked into the attacking third. Finally breaking through in the 12th minute, when Estefania Cardona launched a pass that deflected off an ODU player into the net for an own-goal, to send FIU into the break clinging to the 1-0 advantage.
 
The Monarchs fired 24 shots, with 13 occurring in the 2nd half, but the Panthers' defense would secure the shutout - their third this season.
 
Ithaisa Vinoly recorded her third clean sheet of the year while making a total of five saves.
 
Camille Sahirul, Laia Muñoz Danon, Cardona, Deborah Bien-Aime, Idelys Vazquez, and Reagan Bridges all played the full 90 minutes for the Blue & Gold.
 
The FIU win moved its record to 2-11-2 on the season.
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers will host Louisiana Tech for the final match of the season. The contest is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 28 in a 7 p.m. ET start at FIU Soccer Stadium.
