MIAMI (Nov. 17, 2021) - The FIU women's basketball team bolstered the program with two exciting recruits during the early signing period, as head coach
Jesyka Burks-Wiley announced the additions of Sifa Ineza Joyeuse and Sariana Rodriguez Camacho on Wednesday afternoon.
SIFA INEZA JOYEUSE | G| 5-11 | Fr. | Musanze, Rwanda | Greenforest Christian Academy
Joyeuse is an incoming freshman shooting guard making her way to Miami from Greenforest Christian Academy in Decatur, Georgia. A product of Musanze, Rwanda, Joyeuse has played with the Rwanda National Senior Team and is currently still training with the program.
"We are thrilled to have Sifa join our family!" said Coach Burks-Wiley. "She is a young woman that has continually impressed us with her growth on and off the court over the last year. Sifa fits our system incredibly well and is going to help us continue to move closer to hanging a banner in the Ocean Bank [Convocation Center]."
With Greenforest, Joyeuse played at both the shooting guard and point guard positions. In her senior season of high school, Joyeuse averaged 15.6 points per game while shooting 53 percent from the field and averaging 1.3 steals per game on the defensive end.
"I chose FIU because of the coaching staff," said Joyeuse. "They are very supportive and caring, and they believed in me and made me feel like I could fit into the team well. I'm very excited about joining the team and becoming a part of the Panther family."
SARIANA RODRIGUEZ-CAMACHO | SG | 6-1 | Jr. | Florida Southwestern State | ECEDAO
Rodriguez-Camacho is a JUCO shooting guard transfer joining FIU as an incoming junior by way of Florida Southwestern State. The native of Morovis, Puerto Rico possesses great outside shooting ability and length that will help the Panthers not only space the floor but also match up against larger opponents.
"We are ecstatic to have Sariana join our family," said Burks-Wiley. "She will bring us great size and shooting ability on the perimeter, but most importantly she is an exceptional young lady. Her international experience will mix in well with our current members. Sariana is going to help us greatly in our pursuit for a [championship] banner."
Rodriguez-Camacho spent her freshman season with FSW in 2020-21 and is currently playing with the Bucs as a sophomore in the active 2021-22 campaign. Rodriguez-Camacho has averaged 11.4 points per game in the early portion of the 2021-22 campaign. Over the course of both seasons at FSW, Rodriguez-Camacho has shot 38% from beyond the arc.
While playing high school ball with ECEDAO Albergue Olimpico in Puerto Rico, Rodriguez-Camacho was a two-time national champion and her team's MVP. Rodriguez-Camacho was also a member of the Puerto Rican National Team for the U16 and U18 squads.
"One of my dreams was to play for a Division I program and FIU has a rich player and alumni tradition with former Olympian Michelle Gonzalez and 'Mr. FIBA', Carlos Arroyo," said Rodriguez-Camacho. "FIU was an easy decision for me. It seems to be a family and a place with a suitable environment for me to achieve my goals regarding academics and sports. I feel like the right people to help me do it are at FIU. They have a plan for me both academically and as a basketball player and I want to become a pro in both areas."
