DALLAS, Texas (Nov. 9, 2021) – The No. 13 ranked FIU men's soccer team had a total of 10 players honored to the Conference USA all-league squads, which were announced by conference officials on Tuesday.
"When our team does well, individuals get recognition," said C-USA Coach of the Year
Kyle Russell. "These awards are a testament to the teams' hard work. We celebrate the individuals and the awards that have been earned but we focus on capturing more success as a team, one game at a time."
The Panthers had a total of four players tabbed to the All-Conference USA First Team including forward
Stephen Afrifa, who currently paces FIU in goals (8) and points (19). Freshman
Bernardo Dos Santos Monteiro was also a first-team selection after posting seven goals and 15 total points during the regular season.
Rounding out the Blue and Gold's first-team honorees were
Kareem Riley and
Matteo Gasperoni. Riley has recorded five goals and one assist in 16 starts while leading FIU in minutes played. Gasperoni has chipped in a goal and an assist while anchoring the midfield for the Panthers, helping FIU rank as one of the top offensive and defensive teams in the nation.
Defenseman
David Garcia was slotted on the All-C-USA Second Team. The Spanish center back has registered three goals and an assist while playing a key role on the FIU backline.
