Swim & Dive Hosts Marshall in Dual-Meet on Friday

Panthers battle Thundering Herd for first time ever in a dual-meet

MIAMI (Dec. 16, 2019) - The FIU women's swimming and diving team is back at the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center on Friday morning, Dec. 17, for a Conference USA dual-meet against Marshall.
 
The Panthers and Thundering Herd are set to hit the water beginning at 11 a.m. ET.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
The meet will run the standard 16 event format including two relays, 12 individual swimming events, as well as the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. The order of events is as follows:

200 Medley Relay
3m Diving (Will run concurrently with swimming)
1000 Freestyle
200 Freestyle
100 Backstroke
100 Breaststroke
200 Butterfly
50 Freestyle
1m Diving
20-minute break
100 Freestyle
200 Backstroke
200 Breaststroke
500 Freestyle
100 Butterfly
400 Individual Medley
200 Freestyle Relay
 
MARSHALL PREVIEW
FIU enters the contest against the Thundering Herd with a 3-1 overall record in dual meets this year. In their last dual meet competition, the Panthers defeated FGCU by a score of 189.5 to 110.5 on Nov. 6. Most recently, the Blue & Gold placed third overall at the Purdue Invitational and bested five other programs while finishing ahead of Power 5 foe Purdue.
 
The Thundering Herd have competed in two dual meets this season and own a 1-1 record. Marshall dropped its first outing against Liberty on Oct. 23 by a score of 216-137, before defeating Toledo 172-127 (Nov. 13). In their most recent competition, the Thundering Herd placed third overall at the TYR 85' Liberty Invite behind Campbell (1st) and Liberty (2nd).
 
Friday's contest will mark the first-ever head-to-head meeting between Marshall and FIU.

LAST TIME OUT
The Panthers enjoyed an incredible performance in their last outing at the Purdue Invitational, posting four FIU program records, one C-USA Record, 13 NCAA B Standard times, five NCAA Zone Diving qualifying scores, and 11 top times in C-USA.
 
Christie Chue highlighted the three-day event with a time of 2:08.66 in the 200 breaststroke, which stands as a C-USA and FIU record. In the 100 breast Chue posted an FIU record-mark of 59.88.
 
In the 100 butterfly, Julia Miranda set a program record with a time of 53.02, before Stephanie Hussey broke the record later in the day with a time of 52.85.
 
The Panther relay squad of Michaela Trnkova, Sara Gyertyanffy, Julia Miranda, and Elinah Phillip also set a program record with a mark of 1:37.42 in the 200 medley relay.
 
On the diving side, Maha Gouda recorded NCAA Zone qualifying scores in the 3-meter (338.85), 1-meter (302.15), and platform (283.5) dives. Mandy Song also posted zone qualifying scores in the 3-meter (352.85) and 1-meter (313.20).
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers are back at the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center for the FIU Sprint Invite on Monday, Jan. 3. Events are set to get underway beginning at 10 a.m. ET.
