Panthers Fall Short Against Ospreys

FIU scores a second-half goal in defeat

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (Feb. 12, 2021) - The Panthers fought hard against the Ospreys in a wet and rainy match, but a second-half goal was not enough as the FIU women's soccer team fell to North Florida by a score of 3-1 in Jacksonville.

FIU's record now stands at 1-1 on the young season, while UNF improves to 2-0.

After falling behind by a margin of 3-0 against the Ospreys, the match was paused at the 53rd minute due to a lightning delay. FIU found the back of the net shortly after resuming play, thanks to a goal off the foot of Kédie Johnson in the 57th minute. The Panthers clawed all the way till the end, yet the Blue & Gold ultimately fell to the Ospreys as time expired with the rain still falling.

Johnson notched her second goal of the season and continues to lead the team with five points on the year. Laia Muñoz Danon, Carmen Marin, and Estefania Cardona all logged shots-on-goal in the match.

Between the posts, junior transfer Kiera Gibson earned her first start as a Panther and registered six saves on 13 shots faced.

UP NEXT
The Panthers look to bounce back and earn their second victory over Jacksonville this season, when they battle the Dolphins this Sunday, Feb. 14. First kick against JU is slated for 10 a.m. ET from Southern Oak Stadium.
