Women's Soccer Falls to Stetson

Ronja Cronvall scored her second goal of the season

DELAND, Florida (Feb. 18, 2021) - The FIU women's soccer team gave its all against Stetson on Thursday night, but the Panthers ultimately fell to the Hatters by a score of 3-1 on the road.

With the result, FIU's record evens up at 2-2 on the Spring 2021 season, while Stetson improves to 1-1.

The Panthers trailed by a score of 2-0 against the Hatters in the opening half until Ronja Cronvall found the back of the net for FIU in the 31st minute. Charity O'Neal began the scoring play with a well-placed cross from the left corner, before Laia Munoz Danon got a tip on the pass and diverted the ball to Cronvall, who then finished the sequence and cut FIU's deficit to 2-1. The Panthers logged six shot attempts in the first period and led the Hatters in shots-on-goal by a margin of 4-2.

The match remained close for most of the second half as FIU held it owns against Stetson and searched for an equalizer, but things fell out of reach for the Panthers when the Hatters extended their lead with a goal in the 81st minute. FIU fired away three more shot attempts after the break including one on-goal.

Cronvall scored her second goal of the season for FIU and is now tied for the team lead in the category. Munoz Danon and O'Neal each were credited with an assist in the match and recorded their first points of the year. The Panthers also saw shot attempts from Munoz Danon, Carmen Marin, Estefania Cardona, and Sophia Vilar

Between the posts, goalkeeper Sarah Ward logged a full 90-minutes in the match and gathered two saves.
