HATTIESBURG, Mississippi (Feb. 20, 2021) – The FIU women's basketball team closed out its road slate with a Conference USA battle against Southern Miss at the Reed Green Coliseum on Saturday. The Panthers fell to the Golden Eagles 76-60 during the series finale with USM.
The Panthers went 43.8% from the floor and 32.0% from beyond the arc during the loss. Despite falling behind 37-19 in the first half, FIU surged back in the third quarter, outscoring Southern Miss 17-14. The Panthers rallied in the fourth with a game-high 24 points, but the deficit was too much for the squad to overcome.
Individually, Jiselle Thomas led the way for FIU, posting 20 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Kyla Nelson added 19 points as she shot 7-13 from the field, including hitting five three-pointers. Alexus Wykoff was the third Panther player to post double-figures with the forward logged 10 points during the loss.

FIU comes home to polish off the regular season with a weekend series against WKU. Saturday's game serves as Senior Day for the Panthers. Tipoff on Friday, Feb. 26, is set for 7 p.m. ET, while Saturday's finale is slated for 4 p.m.
