MIAMI (Feb. 21, 2021) - The FIU women's tennis team hits the road on Monday, as the Panthers travel to Stetson to take on the Hatters and continue the 2021 slate.
First serve from DeLand, Florida, is set for 10:00 a.m.
WELCOME BACK, PANTHERS
FIU played its first match in almost a month and first at home in nearly a year this past Saturday, as the Panthers downed visiting North Florida, 5-2. FIU's 59th-ranked pair of
Kamila Umarova and
Basak Akbas reunited for this first time this season, as the duo helped FIU earn the doubles point to pounce on the Eagles early. Umarova fought off back-to-back tiebreaker sets to clinch the win officially as the Panthers improved to 2-0.
SCOUTING STETSON
Stetson sits at 1-2 on the year, with its two defeats coming to No. 22 UCF and USF while downing Florida National to open 2021. Stetson earned the doubles point against USF, but was outplayed in singles action as the Hatters could only take one court. Danel Ashirova has played all three matches in the No. 1 position in singles, going 1-2 overall.
UP NEXT
After Monday's road match, the Panthers have another long break in the action, as FIU's next contest will come on Wednesday, March 17, at home against East Tennessee State. First serve is slated for Noon.
