CLERMONT, Florida (Feb. 26, 2021) - FIU pushed No. 12 Kentucky and New Mexico State to the brink on Friday, but the Panthers dropped their opening two contests of the Spring Games in Clermont Florida. FIU fell 6-5 to nationally-ranked UK and 4-3 to NM State. 

The Panthers will close out the tournament on Saturday with a pair of games against Stetson and New Mexico State. The Panthers take on the Hatters at 1:30 p.m. and conclude the weekend against the Aggies at 6:30 p.m. 

FIU was leading 12th-ranked and undefeated Kentucky 5-4 heading into the final frame, before the Wildcats earned a walk-off with two outs. 

Against UK, Venessa Gallegos hit her second homer of the year to earn FIU's first run of the afternoon, after she lifted a solo shot to left field. Gallegos collected two more hits against the Aggies in the next contest, adding to her impressive start at the plate in 2021. 

UP NEXT
FIU continues its road swing next weekend, as the Panthers take part in the FAU Invitational on March 5-6. FIU will face Illinois State, Pittsburgh and Coastal Carolina in Boca Raton.
