MIAMI (March 1, 2021) - The No. 24 ranked FIU men's soccer team won in dominating fashion on Monday afternoon in Miami, as the Panthers defeated the University of Fort Lauderdale (UFTL) by a score of 5-0 at the FIU Soccer Stadium.
The Panthers improved to 2-1-0 this spring, while the Eagles fell to 0-2-1.
FIU saw four first-half goals against UFTL, with strikes coming off the feet of
Mauro Bravo,
Matias Barraza,
David Garcia, and
Alessandro Campoy. The Panthers tacked on another goal in the second half to extend their lead, as the goalkeeper duo of
Johan Peñaranda and
Grant Makela split time in the box to help record FIU's first clean sheet of the season.
FIU ruled the shot-attempt column by a whopping 26-3 margin against UFTLÂ and allowed zero shots on-goal in the contest, while the Panthers fired away 13 on-goal.
Owen Green,
Kareem Riley, and Barraza were all credited with assists in the match. Bravo recorded the first goal of his FIU career in the 5-0 victory.Â

FIU begins the Conference USA portion of its schedule this weekend, when it welcomes rival FAU to Miami on Saturday, March 6. First kick against the Owls is slated for Noon from the FIU Soccer Stadium.
