MIAMI (March 2, 2021) - FIU women's tennis head coach
Katarina Petrovic announced the signing of Ines Bekrar last week. The French native, who owns over 50 wins for her junior career, will join the Panthers in the fall of 2021.
"Ines is a very versatile player who is committed to our process and willing to work hard,"
Katarina Petrovic said. "Being left-handed in tennis is a great advantage as well and Ines will be a great fit for our program and make an immediate impact to our team this fall."
This past January's ITF Junior Rankings had Bekrar slated at 93rd overall, which is a career-high for the left-hander.
"I am very happy to be part of the FIU team," Bekrar said. "I loved speaking with Coach Katarina and she made me feel really comfortable. I believe coming to FIU will allow me to grow as a player and compete on the professional stage. I can't wait to join the team. Let's go, Panthers!"
Last February, Bekrar won the JB2 Pretoria in South Africa, defeating fellow Panther signee Yasmine Kabbaj in the semifinals. Bekrar also won the J5 Algiers in 2019.
Bekrar competed for Algeria in the 2019 Junior Fed Cup, winning four combined singles and doubles matches. Bekrar was just 15 years old when making her Fed Cup debut.
