MIAMI (March 29, 2021) - FIU football hosted its annual Pro Day, as over 20 NFL and CFL scouts came to watch the future pro Panthers at Riccardo Silva Stadium on Monday morning.
The annual Pro Day was the first for FIU in over two years due to the COVID-19 global pandemic canceling all spring events in 2020.
FIU had 12 former Panthers participate in Pro Day this year, as the 2020 trio of
Noah Curtis,
D'Antne Demery and
Shane McGough were joined by former Panthers
Maurice Alexander,
Olin Cushion III,
Tony Gaiter IV,
Sage Lewis,
Austin Maloney,
Napoleon Maxwell,
Pharoah McKever,
Julian Williams and
Anthony Wint on Monday morning.
"It's a little bit surreal for this to be my final time at The Cage," McGough said. "It's great to have the opportunity to have a Pro Day, especially with everything going on and the guys who didn't get one last year."
The day began with physical measurements and weight room activities, before moving out onto the field for timing and other position drills.
"It's crazy, this was my first time being out here since I broke my ankle," Alexander said. "So that in itself was really emotional and it was great to come here and walk off the right way and especially to do it with my guys
Tony Gaiter IV and
Austin Maloney."
The 2021 NFL Draft will take place on April 29-May 1 in Cleveland, Ohio. FIU had two players selected in last year's draft, as
James Morgan was drafted by the New York Jets in the fourth round, while
Stantley Thomas-Oliver III was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round. FIU had multiple players taken in the NFL Draft for just the third time overall and first since 2013.
